I know that Brothers of the Zodiac didn’t come out quite right. I never explained the temporary immortality of the Brothers. In the first draft, done ten years ago, I wrote out their origin story, and that they would get together every twenty or thirty years to reinforce their dedication to Inanna. I never put that in the series.

I should have also made them to be novels. Big books. More romance than straight up sex.

I tried writing long-hand, but that has caused issues in my right arm, where it’s difficult for me to sleep. You know how hard it is to sleep with an ice pack?

I’m still planning on rewriting the Brothers of the Zodiac as a version 2 with more romance than erotica, starting with Aries and going through them in order. They’ll also be longer than the short bits I did.

A guy who is questionably moral is forced to take in some boys who show super powers, and he’s to train them. Of course, he’s gay, but not sure about the boys.

Who’s POV? Right now, it’s one of the kid’s, but I want to tell it from the ambiguous POV of the main character. I developed this character based on what I wish I could get away with. Morally, anyway. What artist doesn’t want to kill off their micro-managing boss? What writer doesn’t make the assholes they met up with in their lives the antagonists? Isn’t that the point of writing?

My point in writing is to fulfil the fantasies I have/had. That’s what I did with the erotica and romance. Now…there are other plot ideas that I want to explore, test out. But I don’t want them to be just a mess of words with no story. No beginning, middle, or end. No purpose.

Do you want more romance? Or a coming of age tale? Does it matter?

Training scenes are soooooo boring.

I tried my hand at fantasy for about two weeks, and then I had a heart attack. Literally. I was down for about a week, but luckily no stents were needed and no blockages were found.

I might go back to that fantasy story, but it’s got a bad taste in my mouth (bad memory) so I might just let it slide. All those scenes I have in my head…gone. Or useful somewhere else.

No romance. It’s not being sold as a romance. It’s being sold as a fantasy.

Now, I don’t read straight-up fantasy – George R. R. Martin soured me on the genre because I hated too many of the Game of Thrones characters.

So I’m reading this book and want to try my hand again at fantasy. But without romance? A strong platonic friendship that develops over time? I’d need a plot if romance is not the plot.

I will read more of this book to see how the author does it.

It’s especially difficult writing romance and Happily Ever After stories in this pandemic age. Reading them is not a problem. But writing set before or after this pandemic is a stretch of the imagination. You have to remember what it was like before, and imagine what it will be like after. With people beating each other up on planes and politicians flip-flopping due to polls, it’s hard to trust in a HEA. In the moment, it seems so hokey.

Paranormal Romance is still selling well. After working on the Brothers of the Zodiac series, nothing has come to me other than shape-shifting dragons and hunky werewolves. That’s been done. A lot.

However the problem is putting this story out on Amazon, where there is more smut and trash than quality erotica/romance. You have to wade through the crap to get to my stuff, thank you very much. Since I’m doing paranormal romance vs erotica, there’s more to the story than just Came, Saw, Conquered, Came. There has to be a story. And there is a formula.

Boy meets boy. Boy hates boy. Boy and boy get put together in a situation where they have to trust each other. Boy lets other boy in. They have sex at least once. There’s a final situation where boy has to rely on boy to save him. Boy saves boy. HEA.

Booooooring. But that’s the trope. I wrote it 12 times.

I need to do the same. Only different.
